Tapered roller bearings are separable bearings, and the inner and outer rings can be separated. Therefore, during installation, the inner ring cage rolling element assembly can be press-fitted on the shaft respectively, and the outer ring can be installed separately into the bearing seat hole. When using a sleeve for press-fitting, it should be noted that one end of the sleeve must be placed on the end face of the outer ring and must not be placed on an inclined raceway surface.

Tapered roller bearings are mostly installed in pairs. During installation, three aspects should be focused on: selecting installation coordination; adjusting axial clearance; conducting trial operation and detecting temperature.

Select installation coordination

The outer ring of the tapered roller bearing and the housing hole of the bearing seat should not be an interference fit, and the fit between the inner ring and the journal should not be too tight. It is required that the nut should be used to adjust it during installation so that it can produce more flexible axial displacement. . Because if the tapered roller bearing uses an interference fit, the contact angle of the bearing will easily change, resulting in uneven load distribution on the bearing and high temperature rise. Therefore, the installation fit between the inner and outer rings of this type of bearing, the journal and the housing hole of the bearing seat should generally be such that the thumbs of both hands can just push the bearing into the journal and housing hole.

Adjust axial clearance

For the installation axial clearance of tapered roller bearings, the adjustment nut on the journal, the adjustment washer and the thread in the bearing seat hole can be used, or the preload spring can be used to adjust. The size of the axial clearance is related to the arrangement of the bearing installation, the distance between the bearings, and the materials of the shaft and the bearing seat, and can be determined according to the working conditions. For tapered roller bearings with high loads and high speeds, when adjusting the clearance, the impact of temperature rise on the axial clearance must be considered, and the reduction in clearance caused by the temperature rise must be estimated. In other words, the axial clearance Adjust it appropriately. For bearings with low rotation speed and vibration, they should be installed without clearance or installed with preload. Its purpose is to make the rollers and raceways of the tapered roller bearing have good contact, distribute the load evenly, and prevent the rollers and raceways from being damaged by vibration and impact. After adjustment, check the axial clearance with a dial indicator. The method is to first fix the dial indicator on the fuselage or bearing seat, make the dial indicator contact head against the smooth surface of the shaft, and push the shaft left and right along the axial direction. The maximum swing amount of the dial indicator is the axial clearance value.

Perform a test run and check the temperature

In order to ensure good contact between the rollers of the tapered roller bearing and the raceway and obtain appropriate axial clearance, a test run and temperature detection should be performed after the installation of the tapered roller bearing and each adjustment of the clearance. The method is to first run at low speed for 2-8 minutes, then try to run at medium speed for 2 hours, and then gradually increase it to high speed. The test run at each speed level shall not be less than 30 minutes, the temperature rise rate shall not exceed 5°C per hour, and the final stable temperature shall not exceed 70°C.

In addition, when installing and adjusting the clearance of the tapered roller bearing, it should also be noted that the tapered roller must be in good contact with the large rib of the inner ring.
