1. What is a composite bearing?
Bearings composed of different components (metals, plastics, solid lubricating materials) are called composite bearings. The composite bearing itself is a sliding bearing. The composite bearing is also called a bushing, a bearing bush or a sleeve bearing. It is usually cylindrical and does not contain movement. part.
Standard configuration includes cylindrical bearings for radial loads, flanged bearings for radial and light axial loads, gaskets and turn-over gaskets for heavy axial loads, and sliding plates in various shapes. Custom designs are also available to include special shapes, features (grooves, holes, notches, tabs, etc.) and sizes.
Composite bearings are used for sliding, rotating, oscillating or reciprocating motion. Sliding applications are commonly used as plain bearings, bearing liners and wear plates. The sliding surface is usually flat, but can also be cylindrical, and always moves linearly, not rotationally. Rotary applications involve cylindrical surfaces and one or two directions of travel. Oscillating and reciprocating motion applications involve flat or cylindrical surfaces, traveling in both directions.
Composite bearing structures can be solid or split-butted (coiled bearings) for easy installation. Matching the bearing to the application is critical. High loads require bearings to increase contact area and have higher load carrying capacity. Compared with oil and grease lubricated bearings, solid lubricant bearings are designed to operate at higher temperatures. High temperature applications require special lubrication measures to minimize heat build-up and friction.
Composite bearings are manufactured using different structures. Product selection depends on operating conditions and performance requirements.
