What are the differences between the three materials used for bearing seals?

2023-11-02

Three common bearing seal materials are rubber, polyurethane, and silicone.

The differences between these three materials in bearing seals are as follows:

Rubber: Rubber material has good elasticity and wear resistance, which can effectively prevent lubricant leakage and impurities from entering. In terms of bearing seals, commonly used rubber materials include nitrile rubber (NBR) and fluoroelastomer (FKM).

Polyurethane: Polyurethane material has excellent resistance to wear, tear and oil. Polyurethane is lighter and more durable than rubber materials. Therefore, polyurethane may be a better choice on some bearing seals with special requirements.

Silicone: Silicone material has excellent high temperature resistance, low temperature resistance and good chemical stability. Silicone bearing seals usually have a low friction coefficient and can effectively reduce the friction resistance of the bearing. In addition, silicone sealing rings also have cold resistance, heat resistance, corona resistance, arc resistance and anti-aging properties, and comply with FDA and SGS standards.

In summary, these three materials have their own characteristics and advantages for bearing seals. Which material to choose depends on the specific application requirements and working environment.
