Preparation for bearing installation and removal

2020-07-01

Before installation, all necessary parts, tools, equipment and related data should be prepared. Also carefully study the drawings or instructions to determine the correct installation sequence for the different parts.

Carefully inspect the housings, shafts, seals, and other bearing configurations to ensure that the mating surfaces are clean and in good condition. Special checks should also be made for threaded holes, conduits, or grooves to prevent some residue from machining.Castings shall ensure that the shapeless core sand remains on some unmachined surfaces and all burrs shall be removed.

Check the dimensional and shape tolerances of all components in the imported bearing configuration, and the relevant components must reach the required accuracy and conform to the specified tolerance range before the bearing can play its due performance. The diameters of cylindrical journal and seat holes are generally measured with micrometers or inside micrometers at two cross sections and four different locations. The taper of the journal may be measured by ring, special taper, or sinusoidal gauges.

It is recommended to keep records of the inspection and measurement results for future reference.Parts and measuring instruments shall be kept at approximately the same temperature to ensure the accuracy of the measurement. This means that parts and measuring equipment may need to be kept in the same place for an appropriate amount of time to reach the same temperature. This is particularly important for large bearings and their associated components.

Imported bearings should be kept in the original packaging until the moment before installation to prevent dust and other pollution special entry. In general, there is no need to remove the anti-rust agent coated on the bearing before leaving the factory, just wipe the outer circle and inner hole of the imported bearing. However, if the bearing is greased and applied at very high or very low temperatures, or if the grease used is not compatible with the rust inhibitor, it is necessary to clean and dry the bearing carefully before installation to avoid damaging the effect of the grease.

It is also necessary to clean and dry the bearing before installation if it is likely to be contaminated due to improper handling (e.g. packing damage).Bearing removed from the original packaging, if the surface of the rust inhibitor is relatively thick or high viscosity, the bearing also need to be cleaned and dried. This may be the case for some oversized bearings with an outside diameter greater than 420mm. In this case, petroleum solvent or paraffin may be used to remove rust inhibitor from the imported bearings.

If imported bearings with sealing rings or dust caps are used, they should not be cleaned before installation because they are filled with grease before delivery.
