What are the characteristics of bearing seals and which materials are most commonly used?

2023-12-19

Bearing seals mainly have the following characteristics:

1. Prevent dust, moisture, gas, etc. from entering the inside of the bearing and keep the bearing clean and lubricated.

2. Prevent the loss of lubricant inside the bearing and maintain the lubrication performance of the bearing.

3. Prevent foreign matter from outside the bearing from entering the inside of the bearing and causing damage to the bearing.

4. The structure and materials of the sealing device should be compatible with the structure and size of the bearing to ensure the sealing effect.

The sealing of bearings is one of the important measures to ensure the normal operation and service life of bearings. Therefore, attention should be paid to the selection and use of sealing devices during use and installation.

The most commonly used materials for sealing:

1. Rubber material: Rubber is a commonly used sealing material with excellent elasticity and wear resistance, which can effectively prevent lubricant leakage and impurities from entering. Commonly used rubber materials include nitrile rubber (NBR) and fluorine rubber (FKM).

2. Polyurethane material: Polyurethane is a polymer material with excellent wear resistance, tear resistance and oil resistance. Therefore, polyurethane is also often used in the manufacture of bearing seals. Polyurethane is lighter and more durable than rubber materials.

3. Silica gel material: Silica gel is a polymer material with excellent high temperature resistance, low temperature resistance and good chemical stability. Silicone bearing seals usually have a low friction coefficient and can effectively reduce the friction resistance of the bearing.
