What are the causes of motor leakage?
1. Environmental factors:
Moisture intrusion or rain or water seeping into the motor: This is one of the common causes of motor leakage. If the motor is in a humid environment for a long time, or if waterproof measures are not in place, the internal components may easily become damp, thereby reducing the insulation performance and causing leakage.
2. Dirt accumulation:
Too much oil or other dirt on the windings: The accumulation of oil and dirt will adhere to the motor windings, affecting the insulation performance of the windings, reducing the insulation resistance, thereby increasing the risk of leakage.
3. Insulation damage:
The insulation of the incoming and outgoing wires or junction box joints is reduced or damaged: The incoming and outgoing wires and junction box joints are key parts of the connection between the motor and the external circuit. If the insulation materials in these parts are aged, damaged or poorly connected, current leakage may occur.
Motor sweep, overheating or insulation aging: If sweep occurs when the motor is running (that is, the rotor and the stator core rub against each other), it will cause local overheating, thereby accelerating the aging of the insulation material. In addition, long-term overheating operation will also degrade the performance of the insulation material and cause leakage.
4. Design or manufacturing defects:
Insulation damage or severe contamination of internal terminal posts: This may be caused by negligence in the design or manufacturing process, such as improper selection of insulation materials, insufficient processing accuracy, etc.
Insulation damage to the outlet and terminal board: Also due to problems in the design, manufacturing or installation process, the insulation performance of the outlet, terminal board and other parts may be reduced.
5. Improper use and maintenance:
Long-term operation at lower than rated voltage or overload operation: This will cause the motor to overheat and accelerate insulation aging, thereby increasing the risk of leakage.
Untimely or improper maintenance: Failure to regularly clean the dust and dirt inside the motor, failure to promptly discover and deal with problems such as insulation damage, etc. may lead to motor leakage.
6. External factors:
Poor grounding or no grounding at all: This can cause the motor housing to become live, increasing the risk of electric shock.
Power quality problems: Such as large power supply voltage fluctuations and high harmonic content, which may also have adverse effects on the insulation performance of the motor.
The causes of motor leakage involve many aspects, including environmental factors, dirt accumulation, insulation damage, design or manufacturing defects, improper use and maintenance, and external factors. In order to prevent motor leakage, comprehensive measures need to be taken, such as strengthening waterproofing and moisture-proofing, regularly cleaning dirt, checking insulation performance, promptly discovering and dealing with problems such as insulation damage, and ensuring that the motor is well grounded.
