Grease classification

Types of commonly used grease

1. Calcium-based grease

This is the grease commonly known as butter. The most widely used grease in the automotive maintenance industry. This grease is a technology from the 1930s.

It is already an obsolete product in developed countries. Because of its low price, it is widely used by the auto repair industry. It is strongly recommended not to use such products. At least don't use it in your own car.

2. Graphite calcium grease

Usually black, this is due to the addition of a certain proportion of flake graphite in the grease, which has good water resistance and rolling properties. Particularly suitable for lubrication of steel plates at the rear of automobiles. Tests in related parties have proved that the life of automobile leaf springs lubricated with graphite calcium-based grease is more than double that of ordinary grease lubrication. It is recommended that car riders do not use ordinary butter to lubricate the rear wheel steel plate.

3. General Lithium Grease for Automotive

This is a grease commonly used in the modern automobile industry. It has the characteristics of long life, good anti-water effect, and good lubrication effect. It is a substitute for ordinary butter. It can be used for most of the lubrication of automobiles. Its service life is twice that of calcium-based grease.

4. Extreme pressure lithium complex grease

This is a grease with higher extreme pressure and wears resistance than general-purpose lithium grease. It should be noted that the grease has the same grade as the lubricating oil to be suitable for different ambient temperatures and operating conditions. In general, the larger the number, the more viscous. Usually available in the south throughout the year is available in northern winter. 3# is only suitable for tropical heavy-duty vehicles. Of course, strictly speaking, the choice of grease is also affected and restricted by other factors.

The correct use of grease:

1. The amount of lubrication added should be appropriate

If the amount of grease is too large, the friction torque will increase, the temperature will increase, and the grease consumption will increase. If the amount of grease is too small, reliable lubrication will not be obtained and dry friction will occur. Generally speaking, the appropriate amount of grease is 1/3 to 1/2 of the total void volume in the bearing. However, depending on the situation, sometimes grease should be applied to the edge of the bearing for cavity lubrication.

2. Pay attention to prevent the mixing of different types, brands, and old and new greases

Avoid cross-use of grease containers and tools, otherwise, it will have adverse effects on the fat drop point, increase in penetration, and decrease in mechanical stability.

3. Pay attention to the work of replacing new grease

As the variety and quality of grease are constantly being improved and changed, when the old equipment is changed to new grease, it should be tested first, and then it can be used officially; when replacing the new grease, the waste grease should be removed first, and the parts should be cleaned. clean. When adding grease, squeeze out the waste grease until new grease is seen at the grease outlet.

4. Pay attention to the management of the grease filling process

Before receiving and filling grease, pay attention to the cleaning of containers and tools. The grease supply port on the equipment should be wiped clean in advance to prevent the mixing of mechanical impurities, dust, and sand.

5. Pay attention to the timely replacement of seasonal grease

For example, the temperature difference between winter and summer of the environment where the equipment is located varies greatly. If winter grease is used in summer or vice versa, the result will be counterproductive.

6. Pay attention to regular grease replacement

The time for adding and changing grease should be determined according to the specific conditions of use. It is necessary to ensure reliable lubrication without causing waste of grease.

7. Do not pack grease in wooden or paper containers

It should be stored in a cool and dry place to prevent the loss of oil and hardening, mixing with moisture, or being contaminated and deteriorated.
