Can the bearings continue to be used after they are worn?

2023-12-28

Abrasive wear of bearings refers to a phenomenon or process in which hard particles or protrusions are in contact with each other on the bearing surface, causing surface material to be lost. This kind of wear is usually caused by mechanical reasons, such as dust particles entering, insufficient lubrication, etc. Abrasive wear often results in dull marks on the bearing surface, and sometimes the wear particles may act as a polishing material, leaving the surface very shiny.

This is an accelerated process as the wear particles will further reduce the lubricant potential and destroy the micro-geometry of the bearing. Therefore, a true mirror surface in a bearing means that something, sometimes called polishing, occurs during operation.

After the bearing is worn, it is recommended not to continue using it. Because bearing wear may cause the following problems:

1. Increased wear: After a bearing is worn, its surface will become uneven, which will accelerate the wear process of the bearing and may even cause the bearing to become stuck or fail.

2. Produce noise: Worn bearings may produce abnormal sounds or noise during operation, affecting the normal operation of the equipment.

3. Reduced accuracy: After the bearing is worn, its accuracy will be reduced, resulting in unstable operation of the equipment and affecting the performance and production efficiency of the equipment.

Once bearing wear is found, new bearings should be replaced in time to ensure the normal operation of the equipment and extend the service life of the equipment.
